Sally was an artist living in the South of England when she decided to go to Bosnia to help the victims of war. She began by delivering aid to the small Jewish community in West Mostar and soon became a familiar sight as she drove in and out of the war torn city.
The Bosnian Muslims had been under siege for almost three months, trapped between the Bosnian Croats and the Serbs. When Sally heard that several children had been injured during a recent offensive, she requested permission to cross the front line to bring them out. Permission was granted and on August 27 1993 she set off in an old ambulance loaned to her by the Croat Health Authorities.
